October 2011 - Rain Bird APAS 3/4" & 1" valves,
parts APAS-075 and APAS-100, were discontinued in mid 2008 with
no replacement from Rain Bird. Replacement parts for the valves were also
discontinued.
The valves Rain Bird currently sells require a wider space
between the input and output pipes making replacement of APAS
series valves a difficult task. These were very common
sprinkler valves in homes from the late 1980's until they were
discontinued. APAS series valves were the valve of choice
at most hardware stores and home centers.
If you have a Rain Bird APAS-100 or APAS-075 valve with a bad
solenoid (part with wires coming out of it) there is an easy
solution!
Irritrol Systems manufactures a valve that is the same width as
the APAS series. In fact with the solenoids removed they are
almost identical.

Comparison with solenoids removed.
Irritrol 311A Series 3/4" (Part 311A-.75) and 1" (Part 311A-1)
sprinkler valves are a good replacement for
Rain Bird APAS-100 or APAS-075 valves. These can be found
in landscape & irrigation supply stores (as of August 2011) or search online.
They are not available in Home Depot or Lowes.

If you have a RainBird APAS-100 valve with a bad solenoid your
repair is super easy with a Irritrol 311A-1. If power is
getting to your APAS-100 valve but the valve will not turn on or
off correctly you probably have a bad solenoid. All you
need to do is turn the water off, unscrew the old solenoid and
screw in the solenoid from the Irritrol 311A valve. Don't
be alarmed by the fact that the Irritrol solenoid or actuator is
larger than the APAS version. Connect the wires and you
are finished with the repair.

I hope this helps those of you with these discontinued Rain Bird
sprinkler valves. I searched for a while before my local
irrigation supply store helped me find the Irritrol replacement part.
Good luck! |
